How to add more greenery to your diet

The color of the year for 2017 has been announced by Pantone, and it’s greenery, a yellow-green hue taken from nature. Greenery is being seen on runways and designer clothes and is inspired by concern for our environment. I think you can get inspired by this color to add some greenery to your dinner plate. Eat greens.

Dr. Axe calls leafy greens the cornerstone of any diet and most researchers and nutritionists agree. Greens are rich in vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and enzymes. Any kind of leafy greens are nutritious, such as spinach, kale, chard, collard greens, romaine, arugula, watercress, beet greens, and mustard greens. Herbs are the most nutrient dense of all greens, so sprinkle some on any dish anytime.

Counteracting the bitterness of greens is easy. Your body can benefit from the bitterness and people tend to acquire a taste for it over time.

  • Pair them with sweeter items like dried cranberries or citrus on top a salad.
  • Add sweeter vegetables to your soup or side dish, like carrots or beets.
  • A dash of maple syrup or honey also improves a dish of greens, and unlike refined sugar, has health benefits.
  • Cream or cheese softens the bitterness. Homemade sour cream adds probiotics for more benefits.
